INAUGURAL Casey Demons netball head coach Robynn Pym says laying strong foundations is a top priority for the fledgling VNL club.

“We are all about ensuring we have a great culture from the start,’’ Pym said.

“That will be on court — and off court.”

Pym boasts 25 years of senior coaching experience and says the prospect of guiding the all new Casey Demons at the start of their journey is “incredibly exciting”. “I can do it from a blank canvas, so how exciting,’’ she said.

Pym has been involved in all levels of the game and aims to implement high performance behaviours at the Demons. The Casey Demons will draw on deep pool of talent in the region and provide local players a pathway to the elite level.

Pym is the perfect person to enable this to happen.

“I’m really keen to get the girls involved in community programs and represent the club in those programs as well,” she said.

“They’re not only taking court, but they are actually playing for the area as well. I really want to boost the culture up … so when they walk down the street people can recognise them. That’s really important for me.”

Pym says the Casey Demons will benefit from cutting edge coaching programs in its partnership with Melbourne Football Club.

“We’ve got skills acquisition programs that they apply in football that I can apply to netball,” she said.

“So imagine being able to measure passing efficiency and defence repeated efforts.

“We always just measure scoring accuracy in a game of netball. But imagine if a player could go, ‘my passing accuracy is 60 per cent, I’ve got to improve that’, then we show them how. It’s not only helping the individual but it’s helping the team as well.”

Pym can’t wait to get started. “I am completely reinvigorated with my coaching, I just can’t wait,” she said. “We’ve got programs … as I said it’s a blank canvas.”

The Casey Demons will hold trials for prospective players.

The dates are:

Open & 19/U screening day: Wednesday, October 3, 6.30-9pm, at Casey Stadium

Open & 19/U trials: Sunday, October 21, 4.30-7.30pm at Casey Stadium
