DRIVEN Pakenham netball star Eliza Molina has scored her goal of competing at state level before she hits her teens.
The 12-year-old fought through a tough selection process that started in April to make the final team of 12 representing Victoria in the under-12 School Sport Australia Netball Championships in Darwin.
Eliza said she was looking forward to meeting players from all over Australia in September when the games begin.
Past School Sport Victoria team members have gone on to compete in huge competitions including the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.
Eliza also played for the Pakenham Lions’ under-13 team in the South East Football Netball League last year, where she competed against players two years older than herself.
Eliza said her favourite position was goal keeper, but that’s not the best thing about playing netball.
“I love meeting new people,” she said.
Eliza plays a handful of games a week, plus one or two more if another team is short on players.
She trains two to three times a week, keeps up her fitness at home, eats healthy food and drinks plenty of water.
She said she loved playing in defence because “netball’s a really fast game and I get to have a break”.
Eliza is a 2018 Leader Local Sports Star nominee. Local Sports Stars is supported by Sportsmart and Gold 104.3
