A teenager has been charged with 16 offences after he and an offsider were sniffed out by the dog squad following a pursuit in Berwick.

Police responded to reports of an alleged aggravated burglary on Wurundjeri Boulevard in Berwick about 4pm Wednesday, where the duo allegedly took a wallet from inside the home and sped off in an Audi SUV.

The car was allegedly stolen from a home in Pakenham on Monday and police believed it had been used in a string of incidents during the week.

Officers located the car on Cranbourne Rd in Narre Warren and then followed it into Berwick, where they deployed stop sticks to deflate its tyres.

The car was dumped near Parkhill Drive and the duo ran to hide in nearby parkland, but were quickly tracked down by the dog squad and arrested.

Casey detectives charged an 18-year-old Drouin man with 16 alleged offences including car theft, aggravated burglary, home invasion, unlawful assault with a weapon and other dangerous driving offences.

The 18-year-old was remanded to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

His offsider, a 15-year-old boy, was charged with 12 alleged offences including unlicensed driving, two counts of car theft, and five counts of committing an indictable offence while on bail.

The teenager was also remanded and will face a children’s court on Thursday.
