A Chelsea panel beater accused of attacking a Carrum Downs family during a violent home invasion has been bailed.

But Jacques Dalais — also known as Arnold MC Dalais — is barred from returning home, instead spending the next three months in a secure rehabilitation facility.

The 44-year-old fronted the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday, having been charged with aggravated home invasion and assault.

Police allege Dalais and two other men stormed the family of three’s home just after midnight on October 18, kicking a door and forcing themselves inside.

The petrified woman inside alerted her husband and son, before two offenders claimed they “wanted to fight”.

Horrified neighbours heard screams during the two-minute ordeal, which left the man with bruising and the woman in hospital with a broken toe and abrasions caused by falling over.

It was the second hit on the family following another home invasion on July 16, which Dalais was not alleged to be involved.

Police pounced on Dalais’ Chelsea workshop Bayview Panels on October 29, uncovering Finks bikie clothing items and a motorcycle wrapped in Finks branding.

The court was told the victims, who have been left unable to sleep, fear a rival business owner may have hired outlaw bikies to attack them.

Magistrate Hayley Bates said Dalais had an “extremely limited” criminal history and no record of breaching court orders.

Ms Bates heard the rehabilitation facility, located in Melbourne’s east, is manned 24/7 with no internet connection available to residents.

Alarms are also activated if residents leave their room at night.

More of Dalais’ strict bail conditions include that he must not associate with a member of an outlaw motorbike club, not use the internet and not leave the facility without a staff member.

He will return to court in January.
