A petrified Carrum Downs family believe a rival business owner may have hired outlaw bikies to attack them in two alleged home invasions, a court has heard.

The family of three has been left unable to sleep after a number of brutes allegedly stormed their home and unleashed wild attacks on July 16 and October 18, the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard.

Chelsea panel beater Jacques Dalais — also known as Arnold MC Dalais — fronted court on Tuesday over his alleged involvement in the October 18 hit, charged with aggravated home invasion and assault.

The court heard the Carrum Downs husband and wife were sitting in their loungeroom when two unidentified men armed with hammers allegedly kicked down their timber door just after 8.45pm on July 16.

The man was allegedly struck to the head multiple times before his wife was allegedly hit in the head and arm as she rushed to his aid.

The alleged attackers then ran off, the court was told.

Police allege Dalais took part in a second attack on October 18 where three thugs allegedly appeared at the same house just after midnight.

The petrified woman inside alerted her husband and son as one offender allegedly began to violently kick the front door.

Two unidentified offenders allegedly forced themselves inside before telling the man they “wanted to fight”.

The man allegedly managed to fight off the two unknown men before they and Dalais allegedly pushed themselves back inside.

Horrified neighbours heard screams during the two minute ordeal, which left the man with bruising and the woman in hospital with a broken toe and abrasions caused by falling over.

One witness allegedly watched as the three men piled into an awaiting Toyota Camry, which police allege was an Uber ordered from Dalais’ phone to transport the group from his business to the victim’s address and back.

In an interview the Uber driver told police the alleged attackers were “all panting heavily and looked like they’d been running,” Frankston police detective Senior Constable Chris Zurek said.

Police pounced on Dalais’ Chelsea workshop Bayview Panels on October 29, seizing items including a CCTV hard drive, Nike runners and a toolkit.

Finks bikie clothing items and a motorcycle wrapped in Finks branding was also allegedly found, the court heard.

Officers took pictures of Dalais’ distinctive bird tattoos on his hands, which they allege matched tattoos seen on CCTV footage captured by the victim’s security system.

Magistrate Hayley Bates heard the family had been left “terrified” and feeling “lucky” to get just two hours of sleep each night.

“(The woman) is in constant fear these offenders will return to their address … although the suffering was physical it’s the emotional (suffering) that impacts (her) the most,” Sen-Constable Zurek said.

“(She lives) in a constant hyper vigilant state.”

Sen-Constable Zurek said the family did not know why they had been targeted but theorised a rival business owner may have hired bikie members to “scare” them out of the industry after they started trading this year.

In applying for bail Dalais’ lawyer Zarah Garde-Wilson said her client had not been in custody before and had a limited prior history.

Ms Garde-Wilson also said Dalais struggled with a cocaine addiction.

Dalais appeared via video link at the Melbourne Remand Centre.

“There’s no allegation he’s the primary offender … I submit he’s a third party observer as to what has occurred in this situation,” she said.

“It’s unsophisticated offending, (Dalais) used a mobile phone … he hasn’t attempted to hide his ID whatsoever.”

Dalais’ bail application will continue on November 23.
