An accused ageing reckless driver was allegedly clocked racing 224km/h down the Moorooduc Highway on Christmas Day.
Police say the speed, which is 124km/h more than the legal limit, was snapped by a vehicle mounted speed camera.
The 2015 Ford Falcon FGX Turbo-Charged Sedan was surrendered to Somerville Highway Patrol on Tuesday by the 31-year-old owner from Mount Martha.
“The vehicle will be impounded for a month, and was also grounded by a major defect notice for issues including the brakes and exhaust,” a police spokesman said.
A 69-year-old man from Mount Martha, who said he was driving at the time, was charged with a string of driving related offences and will face court at a later date.
In mid-December Speed limits along 38 roads across the Mornington Peninsula were lowered in a two-year trial.
However, the trial is only for shire-managed roads leaving peninsula arterial roads, such as Peninsula Link, Moorooduc Highway and the Western Port Highway at their higher limits.
