A Sale man charged with the murder of man who was walking home from a night out with his wife was out on bail over serious gun charges.

Police allege 20-year-old Spencer Shumski stabbed Clinton Allen in the early hours of May 7, as he was on his way home from celebrating his wife’s birthday.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of York and MacAlistair streets after reports a man had been allegedly stabbed about 1am.

Mr Allen, 38, died at the scene.

Mr Shumski was due to appear in court on May 9 over alleged firearm offences, which will now be consolidated into his next court appearance on August 19.

Mr Shumski appeared in the Sale Magistrates’ Court on Monday via video link from a Morwell police station cell, wearing a black suit.

His lawyer told the court it was Mr Shumski’s first time in custody and that his young age was his only custody consideration.

The Herald Sun understands Mr Shumski is a musician, with music videos of him performing online under the name NP Benzey.

Mr Allen’s step daughter Makala Lister said he was an “amazing” man.

“Clint was an amazing husband, father and grandfather to his unborn granddaughter,” Ms Lister said.

“He was loved by everyone who met him and was always up for a chat no matter what topic.”
