A 15-year-old boy has been charged after a girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on a bus in Hoppers Crossing.

A male sat next to the 15-year-old girl and allegedly sexually assaulted her on the route 181 bus about 7.15pm Sunday, September 11.

Detective leading senior constable Megan Fisher said on Monday police understood the male began observing the girl while she was waiting at Hoppers Crossing railway station.

She was travelling home about 7.15pm after spending the day in the Melbourne CBD with friends.

Footage from the almost-empty bus allegedly showed a male sitting next to the girl before he allegedly began “harassing her”.

After police appealed for information about the incident on Monday, a teenager attended a police station with a family member on Tuesday evening.

He was charged with one count of sexual assault.

The teenager has been bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

The teenage girl who fought off the alleged public transport creep was hailed for her “courage and bravery”.

After the alleged assault, the girl got off the bus and raised the alarm.

The bus driver was unaware of the alleged incident and there were no other passengers on the bus.
