A man was struck by a train in South Yarra early on Monday morning, causing delays to several train lines during peak hour.

A man was fatally struck by a train in South Yarra early on the morning of October 17, causing peak hour delays for commuters.

The incident happened at 5.20am on Monday and police confirmed the death was a self-harm incident.

The Sandringham, Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines were all closed until 8.30am causing major delays for workers travelling into the city, with buses replacing trains.

Police reported the exact circumstances were yet to be established but they were not treating the incident as suspicious.
