Emergency services were rushed to a home quiet street in Melbourne’s northeast on Sunday afternoon after triple-0 identified a man had suffered serious stab wounds.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics were rushed to North Crescent in Heidelberg West just after 3.30pm on Sunday.

The stabbing occurred near the corner of North Crescent and Timor Parade, forcing the partial closure of the parade for a number of hours on Sunday afternoon.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told Leader that he suspected the residents of the house at which the stabbing occurred had some enemies.

He said the windows of the residents’ car were “smashed” in recent weeks and the front fence of the house had also been “mowed” down.

However, the victim has been identified as a 25-year-old Thomastown man.

It is not yet clear why he was in the area.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said Homicide Squad detectives had begun an investigation after paramedics were unable to save the man.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.

The spokeswoman said investigators were working to understand what happened.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and no arrests have been made at this stage,” she said.

Police have obtained CCTV from nearby properties to help them hunt down the offender, or offenders.

The spokeswoman urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
