Work to create a giant “Health City” in the heart of Knox is underway, with the State Government and Knox Council collaborating on the future multimillion-dollar project.

The plans include a public hospital, education and research precincts, medical centres, specialist consultation suites and a medical hotel in the Wantirna South triangle of Boronia Rd, Mountain Highway and EastLink.

The council finalised its responses based on internal feedback, which will be submitted to the Victorian Planning Authority — the body overseeing the project.

Most of the land in question is owned by the State Government – the Department of Health and Human Services as well as VicRoads.

The estimated cost of the four-precinct project is still to be confirmed and Knox Leader understands it will revealed be part of the final masterplan to be rubber-stamped by the government.

Cr Marcia Timmers Leitch said the health precinct would sit between Knox Private Hospital and the Hungarian Club.

“It’s an integrated health precinct which incorporates a hospital, a commercial precinct, medical centres, specialty consulting suites, GPs … [and a] education and medical research precinct,” Cr Timmers-Leitch said.

“It also incorporates a residential precinct to support the community health employees to reside onsite and live and work in the same precinct.”

She said parking and traffic were the two main issues raised during community consultation.

Cr Adam Gill said the health precinct would create employment opportunities for people in the community.

Cr Nicole Seymour said it was exciting landmark project for Knox that creates employment and would be a gateway for exemplary healthcare.

She said with the Angliss Hospital at one end of the municipality and a public hospital in Wantirna was a great support to the community.
