Drivers on the Hume Freeway face delays after a truck rollover in Wallan sparked peak-hour chaos.

The Melbourne-bound lanes of the Hume are closed through Wallan, between Watson St and the Northern Highway, after the truck rollover early Tuesday morning.

The Department of Transport says there is a short detour available, via the exit to Watson St and the Northern Highway, to return to the freeway.

“We ask motorists to be mindful of local traffic when detouring through the township, and to allow up to 30 minutes extra when travelling towards Melbourne,” the Department said.

“This incident and freeway closure is under the control of Victoria Police. The freeway lanes will only re-open when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.”
