It’s been voted as having some of the best Indian food in Melbourne, so it’s no surprise customers are excited to welcome back an Upper Ferntree Gully business.

Indian Rogan Josh Restaurant is reopening after a devastasting fire last year.

A popular Upper Ferntree Gully Indian restaurant is set to reopen, almost 12 months after a devastating fire tore through the business.

Indian Rogan Josh owners Ranjeet and Sandy Gujral are planning to reopen the doors to their Burwood Highway restaurant in a fortnight.

“We are very excited and our customers are even more excited than us,” Sandy said.

The restaurant has been completely rebuilt following the blaze last May, that was started by a short circuit, and caused extensive damage.

“We’ve had to rebuild the whole building front and back,” Sandy said.

“Everything is brand new.”

Rogan Josh Indian Restaurant Upper Ferntree Gully was destroyed by fire in May 2021.

It left a huge repair bill.

Sandy said the last 11 months had been incredibly tough, not only financially, but mentally for her husband.

“We’ve been married for the last 20 years and it’s the only time in my life he’s been at home 24/7,” she said.

Samdy said messages of support from their customers had helped them through.

She said they had considered moving their business to another location, but feedback from customers convinced them to stay in Upper Ferntree Gully.

The couple have run the restaurant in the town for the nearly 10 years.

One reviewer described it as having the “best Indian food this side of the West Gate.”
