CONSTRUCTION will soon begin on safety improvements to a deadly Ringwood intersection.
The State Government is finalising its designs for safety upgrades at the intersection of Maroondah Highway, Dampier Grove and Heatherdale Rd.
The notorious intersection came under further scrutiny after Aivy Nugyen, 14, died when she was hit by a truck while crossing Maroondah Highway on May 16.

The Government announced $250,000 funding on July 6 to improve the intersection, three hours after the Coalition pledged $125,000 in upgrades if it won November’s state election.
Roads Minister Luke Donnellan did not give a start date for the upgrades when asked by Maroondah Leader last week.
But he pledged to have the works finished by January 2019.
“Important works will start soon to improve safety by adding dedicated turning signals, increasing crossing times for pedestrians and installing electronic signs,” Mr Donnellan said.
Ringwood state Liberal MP Dee Ryall said she was “angry” over the lack of action at the intersection since the Government’s pledge.
“It was a cruel hoax on my community to rush out a media release within hours of my election pledge and then do nothing to address the immediate danger for pedestrians and vehicles,” Ms Ryall said.
“This must be fixed urgently, they’ve had long enough.”
Heatherdale Community Action Group secretary Elwynne Kift said the Government should begin work before the November 24 election.
“They can’t start soon enough. There is going to be other close calls and accidents unless it starts soon,” she said.
