Scoffle Waffle opens at Caribbean Market with waffles for humans and dogs

You’ve heard of taco Tuesdays, but what about waffle Wednesdays? A Scoresby food stand is offering foodies the chance to combine the two, serving up taco-style waffles — and they’re not just for humans.

A waffle revolution is beginning in Melbourne’s outer east, where a new business is seeking to offer a type of waffle for everyone — even your furry friend.

Scoffle Waffle’s tasty treats are designed to be unlike anything you’ve had before, with owner Neil Scofield determined to offer “something cool and different” among Melburnians’ fixation with doughnuts and pancakes.

He has upped the ante on typical waffles, offering Nordic-inspired waffles in the shape of love hearts served either in shareable dipper snack packs or like tacos.

The love heart waffles, which are designed to enjoy with others, can be lathered in your choice of sweet toppings, including marshmallow crème, cookies, caramel sauce, sherbet, banana and nutella.

Customers looking for more of a meal can try Scoffle Waffle’s taco-style waffles, which feature delicious fillings inside a folded large waffle.

There’s A.M. waffles for breakfast and plenty of savoury options for all times of day.

Bacon-lovers can enjoy a special maple bacon or a BLT waffle, while there’s also several variations featuring fried chicken, and a cheesy option.

Mr Scofield said unlike a lot of waffle stores, Scoffle Waffle’s batter was freshly made from scratch with real ingredients.

“We take pride in not using pre-mix batters that you just add water to.”

The longtime hospitality worker said he spent months finetuning his special recipe.

“I’ve had some great chefs around Melbourne help us out,” he said.

“There’s a lot of passion in it.”

Mr Scofield said any ingredients or fillings used at Scoffle Waffle were made by his team or sourced from small independent suppliers.

And, determined to convert everyone to the waffle train, Scoffle Waffle also offers non-waffle variations of the waffle.

It has waffle fries, made out of either white or sweet potato and loaded with mustard and mayo, and serves gourmet ice-cream in waffle cones.

“It’s all about the waffle,” Mr Scofield said.

And he couldn’t let dogs miss out on the fun.

The business owner has partnered with a canine treat maker to offer peanut and chicken flavour waffles for pooches.

“They’re healthy for dogs, but they look like sugary treats,” he said.

Mr Scofield has just launched Scoffle Waffle after 20 years in hospitality, working at popular Melbourne venues including Abacus, Morris Jones, Stokehouse and Rococo.

Determined to create a popular and affordable fast food franchise which brings people together, he said he had spent more than 500 hours researching and developing to create Scoffle Waffle.

The brand has just opened at Scoresby’s Carribean Market and Gardens, where it can be found for “Waffle Wednesdays” on Wednesdays from 8.30am to 3pm.

Mr Scofield said the business was planning to also be at the market on Sundays in summer.

Scoffle Waffle is also set to start catering for events, with a caravan joining the crew in January.

And next year, when his mission to convert Melbourne to waffles is further underway, Mr Scofield hopes to get the business on UberEats.
