A flash new Salvos Store in Bayswater is winning rave reviews from bargain hunters.
The new Mountain Highway op shop, based at the former F.J’s Discount Tools store site, has impressed customers with its bright and “beautiful” layout, brand names and new items.
Several members of the I Love To Op Shop Facebook page, which has more than 100,000 members, have urged fellow op shop fans to check it out and shared the goodies they’ve found.
And Bayswater is becoming an op shop destination, with the former Salvos Store space, across the road on Mountain Highway, to be filled by a new RSPCA op shop, joining Vinnies nearby.
Salvos Stores general manager of customer and strategy Edwina Morgan said they had been on a journey over the last few years, working to improve the customer experience at their stores.
“Over the past two years we’ve really focused on improving the experience and making sure the stores are easy to navigate, bright, open, friendly and inviting to the community,” she said.
“We really want to make them a joy to shop in.
“Bayswater is a beautiful store and it’s a credit to the store’s team.”
New bigger Salvos Stores have also opened at Westfield Knox and Forest Hill Chase in recent years.
Ms Morgan said there were lots of bargains and treasures at the Bayswater store, including new items sold with their original tags on, and great homewares and collectibles.
She said on the store’s opening day a customer purchased a sterling silver necklace for just $30.
Ms Morgan said there had been an increase in customers at Salvos Stores over the past few years, as more and more people became interested in shopping for second-hand items.
“One of the nice things about shopping at Salvos Stores is you’re actually helping people and the planet.”
Although Ms Morgan said it was hard to pinpoint her favourite op shop to visit, the Bayswater store would be right at the top.
“It would have to be one of the top stores you’d want to visit and shop in.”
The Salvos’ Mt Eliza store also recently shifted to a new location, and has been winning similar praise for its fit-out.
