Bargain hunters are spoiled for choice when it comes to op shopping in Melbourne.
From Fitzroy to Lilydale, there is no shortage of awesome second-hand stores worth checking out.
Here are some of our favourite shopping strips to enjoy a day a retail therapy on a budget.
GLENFERRIE RD
It’s easy to spend a couple of hours browsing the treasure-filled op shops along Glenferrie Rd Malvern. It’s home to a huge Salvos and Vinnies as well as an MS Community Shop.
Even pop superstar Kylie Minogue once picked up a bargain at the mecwacare op shop on nearby Wattletree Rd.
The quirky Sacred Heart Mission op shop is not far away in Hawthorn, and is even open Sundays.
Formerly a Chinese restaurant, the op shop is well worth checking out, and often has a $1 bin of clothes.
Although the store recently suffered a small fire, it is now welcoming visitors again.
CHAPEL STREET
Once you’ve found a park or jumped off the tram, countless aisles are waiting to be browsed at the impressive collection of op shops along the Windsor end of Chapel St, including the very cool Salvos. If it’s second-hand furniture you’re after, the Sacred Heart Mission store is the place to go.
Save the Children and mecwacare also have op shops along Chapel St.
You can also browse the incredible collection of antiques and quirky items at the Chapel St Bazaar.
Sacred Heart Mission also recently opened another store on nearby Commercial Rd, with an impressive range of clothing, books and other trinkets.
There’s also an Australian Red Cross store on Commercial Rd.
LILYDALE
The Mustard Tree Op Shop in Lilydale is a favourite with op shoppers.
As well as clothes, bric-a-brac and collectibles, op shop volunteers and staff also up cycle donated items and re-sell them.
After you’re shopped out, you can enjoy coffee and cake from the shop’s cafe.
ELSTERNWICK
The two Posh Opp Shoppe’s on Glen Huntly Rd have an old-school feel.
Full of high quality preloved items, sales support the Jewish Children’s Aid Society.
Glen Huntly Rd is also home to Salvos, Vinnies and St John’s Uniting Church Op Shop.
SYDNEY RD
The funky Brunswick shopping strip is an op shopper’s paradise, with more than 10 shops to browse including the Salvos, which has a huge furniture section, Scavengers, Melbourne Pet Rescue Superstore and a massive Savers.
