If you’re looking for a vintage treasure or handcrafted gift, Melbourne is home to some amazing second-hand stores and makers markets.
And operators are seeing an increase in customers looking items they can’t find anywhere else.
Described as a “mecca for bargain hunters,” Market 3196 in Chelsea Heights has more than 350 stalls.
“We’re a mixture of small businesses, vintage; mainly we have a lot of makers here … arts and crafts, a gourmet pantry, a mixture of second-hand goods stalls, the list goes on and on,” co-owner Nicholas Price said.
“A lot of people want to do gift shopping and they think this is the perfect place to come, because around our vicinity now they have to go to the big centres and they like how easy this is, and how many stalls we have – they never know what they might find, it’s a bit of surprise,” he said.
And shoppers can spend the whole day searching for treasures at Hunted Antiques & Collectibles in Kilsyth, a huge warehouse featuring more than 200 stalls.
Owner Dante Cooper said you never know what you might discover – some lucky buyers have even found valuable paintings, rings and necklaces.
“It’s a treasure trove really,” he said.
“(Shopping second-hand) is getting more and more popular, whether it’s financial or people wanting to recycle.”
