Two motorcyclists have been taken to hospital after a crash near Reefton on Sunday.

The pair, who didn’t know each other, were riding along Woods Point Rd when just after 1pm police believe the first rider, a man in his 50s, hit a stick and crashed down an embankment.

A man in his 20s riding behind him then braked to avoid a collision and suffered minor injuries as a result.

The first rider, a 51-year-old Tarneit man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now in a stable condition.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said a man in his 50s was flown to The Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition with upper body injuries while a man in his mid 20s was taken to Maroondah Hospital in a stable condition with lower body injuries.

Volunteers from the Upper Yarra SES unit attended the crash, along with members from the Warburton, Reefton, Wandin and Monbulk fire brigades.

“Today our crews attended to a single motorbike collision up past Reefton, along the Reefton Spur,” the unit posted online.

“The patient was transferred via helicopter. We wish him a speedy recovery.

“We’d like to thank the traffic controllers manning the road closure in Warburton for their promptness in letting the emergency service vehicles through and the patience of the other vehicles waiting in line.”
