Primary school 2021: Eastern Area Multiple Birth Association triplets, twins start prep

With the start of the school year almost upon us, these families are ready for triple the fun on their first day of prep.

They say bad luck comes in threes but not for these Melbourne families who have triplets all set to start primary school.

Mooroolbark mum Fiona Lally, with triplets Zac, Isabelle and Ashton, said being a mother to three energetic five year olds had its challenges but it was rewarding to see them start school.

“They are ready to run into school and are so excited for the new adventures that await them,” Ms Lally said.

“With almost all triplets born prematurely, these children have faced more challenges that most five year olds.

“We will all be celebrating this significant milestone and will probably shed a few tears thinking about what this trio have been through to get there.”

Laura Beaton is mum to Kilsyth siblings Noah, Oliver and Ava, and said the triplets had always been adventurous kids and were excited for school.

“I know they’re going to absolutely love school and I can’t wait to hear about their adventures,” Ms Beaton said.

“It’s been gorgeous finding them huddled together whispering about all the amazing things they’re going to do together at school.”

Also starting school are 10 sets of twins who also are eagerly donning their uniforms ready for their first day of prep on Friday, January 29.

All 12 multiple birth families are members of the Eastern Area Multiple Birth Association — a group which covers Whitehorse, Maroondah, Manningham, Yarra Ranges and Knox.

Twin mum and group member Rowan Barr said with about 4,500 multiple births in Australia each year, there would be close to 9,000 twins, triplets or more starting school in this year.
