NAB to leave Bayswater with branch and ATM to be removed in November
Bank closures are all too common in the suburbs. So it comes as no surprise that a major bank is shutting up shop in Bayswater, blaming modern trends for its upcoming departure and leaving only one bank with a branch in the suburb.

One of Australia’s ‘big four’ banks is shutting up shop in Bayswater with low visitor numbers and modern banking trends behind its decision to leave.
NAB will close its branch and remove its ATM on Mountain Highway on November 11.
But the branch might have already served its final customers as it is temporarily closed due to coronavirus restrictions.
A NAB spokesman, who declined to be named, said the decision was based on dwindling customer numbers at the branch.
The spokesman said more than 90 per cent of the bank’s customer interactions were taking place through digital or phone banking.
“The face of banking is changing, especially in how customers interact with us and we are adapting,” the spokesman said.
“We are continually assessing where our customers are and how to best serve them.
“In response to these changes, the Bayswater branch is scheduled to close on November 11, 2020.”
The spokesman said NAB had already been in touch with branch customers and they could use the bank’s services at Westfield Knox or Eastland, Ferntree Gully or Croydon instead.
NAB’s departure will leave only one bank branch — Bendigo Bank in Station St — for in-person banking in Bayswater.
Nearby Commonwealth Bank closed its branch but kept its ATM in 2018, and the old building remains empty.
ANZ and Westpac have ATMs on Mountain Highway and inside the Mountain High Shopping Centre.
NAB’s spokesman did not say if it planned to close any other Melbourne branches in the near future.
