A FERNTREE Gully op shop has stopped selling cutlery after a man assaulted a staff member and stole a butter knife.
Mountain Gate Op Shop volunteers were shaken up after a man shoved a volunteer before making off with the utensil.
Knox police Senior Sergeant Vin Butera said police believe the man was at the counter with butter knifes and shoved the shop assistant’s hand away as she tried to tally up the items for sale.

Sen-Sgt Butera said the man walked in and looked at cutlery, then went to the counter where the volunteer pulled the items toward her so she could itemise.
“He’s then pushed her hand away from the cutlery and grabbed the knife,” he said.
“She said, let it go and he’s then thrown $2 on the counter and run out of the shop.”
Sen-Sgt Butera said police are following up and reviewing CCTV and speaking to a witness.
