Melbourne musician/composer Andrew Batterham charged with child sex offending: Court
A Melbourne music teacher and composer linked to various elite private schools has been charged with child sex offences.

A prolific Melbourne composer who has been associated with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and teaches music has been accused of sexually violating a child.
Andrew Batterham, 56, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with multiple alleged child sex offences.
Mr Batterham, who was charged with sexual penetration of a child, allegedly violated a child in Melbourne’s east more than 10 years ago.
Knox Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team members arrested and charged Mr Batterham in April this year.
According to an online biography, Mr Batterham had been a prolific composer and musician who has worked and has been associated with various organisations.
It’s claimed Mr Batterham was associated with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has been commissioned for work with multiple elite Melbourne schools including the Methodist Ladies’ College, Caulfield Grammar and Xavier College.
Mr Batterham, a former Victoria College of the Arts and Melbourne Uni student, also worked as a lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music.
Mr Batterham, an award-winning musician with a penchant for jazz, Latin and big band music, also travelled to New York, Los Angeles and London to study music under several greats of the industry.
According to the bio, Mr Batterham learned under a well-known Broadway arranger and a legendary English composer.
Mr Batterham has purportedly composed works for short films, TV commercials and corporate video tracks.
Mr Batterham has also been commissioned to produce work for the Hampton Film Festival, the Hamilton Arts Festival and the NSW education department.
Mr Batterham, who was also charged with an indecent act with a child, had his bail extended to front court at a later date.
