An iced-up Gembrook dad who did up to 70km/h over the speed limit before running off the road at Pakenham has been jailed.
Luke Haylock, 25, was sentenced to two months’ behind bars in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday following the horror drive on August 7.
The court heard the father of one was high on ice as police watched him drive his silver Nissan Pulsar at 150km/h south along Pakenham Rd about 6.40pm.
Officers caught up with Haylock six minutes later after he had come off the bitumen, hit a tree and ran through a fence at a nearby road.
“I nearly died,” the stunned driver said.
Haylock was taken to Dandenong Hospital for assessment before a drug test revealed traces of ice in his system, the court heard.
In an interview Haylock told police he had been speeding as he was “upset” because his mother said she no longer wanted to see him.
Haylock’s lawyer told the court his client had support from his employer and girlfriend’s family, who was prepared to provide accommodation for him.
Haylock also recently completed his barista and traffic management course, the court heard.
“This is serious offending … driving at a speed so dangerous he crashed the car,” Magistrate Andrew Halse said.
“Those simple facts only have to be stated to recognise the precarious situation that puts the community in.”
Haylock, who was already behind bars for separate matters, was jailed for an additional two months.
His licence was disqualified for 12 months.
