A Frankston dope fiend allegedly ransacked a couple’s car as their three-year-old child slept inside, a court has heard.

Melanie Doolan fronted the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing theft and deception related charges over an alleged string of crimes spanning November 2019 to February.

Doolan allegedly embarked on a thieving rampage along Queen St in Frankston on February 6, nicking cash, perfume and CDs from a number of unlocked cars about 1.45am.

The court heard Doolan was caught on CCTV tiptoeing and holding a torch around one of the houses, before cameras allegedly snapped her again when she pinched a mobile phone from a Young St massage parlour on February 7.

Magistrate Timothy Gattuso heard Doolan allegedly ransacked a Seddon couple’s car as their three-year-old slept inside, taking a Gucci wallet and two tablets in November 2019.

The couple had left their child to sleep in the parked car in the garage momentarily as they carried their toddler into their house, the court heard.

Police allege Doolan used a card taken from the wallet to make numerous purchases before doing the same with a card taken from a car parked in Kingsville on the same day.

More of Doolan’s alleged crimes include stealing more than $1400 worth of swimming gear from the Prahran Aquatic Centre in May 2019, a number of items from a vacant Frankston unit in February 2020 and two lots of booze from Coles in Lilydale in November 2020.

In applying for bail Doolan’s lawyer Kymberley Skillen said her client had a “long history” of drug and alcohol consumption with a particular addiction to cannabis.

Doolan, who is on remand, will return to court when the hearing continues on April 23.
