One of Knox’s leading sporting complexes has scored a $140 million upgrade.
Knox Council signed off on the $144 million masterplan, which requires significant financial support from the State and Federal governments, after councillors spent 10 months trying to flush out support.

The plans include 10 additional basketball courts, a gymnastics facility suitable for regional-level competition, a Centre of Excellence and high-performance training area, an 8000-seat sports and entertainment area, and 2500 parking spots.
The existing five-a-side soccer grounds would be converted into one full-sized field, with six new five-a-side pitches to be built and an extension of the pavilion.
There would also be carparking and intersection upgrade works done.
The decision to approve the plan comes after an online survey received more than 1500 responses with many also taking to social media to voice their support.
The masterplan is the council’s response to a growing demand for sporting and recreational facilities.
Basketball, gymnastics and soccer are all experiencing significant growth and, as a result, demand for facilities at a local level is exceeding supply.
Knox Mayor John Mortimore said basketball alone had more than 10,000 participants in Knox and increased in participation by 18.5 per cent between 2014 and 2016.
Cr Mortimore said the plans will deliver a sporting and recreational facility fit for the 21st Century.
“The final Masterplan will guide the development of the KRSP as one of the state’s premiere sporting facilities,” he said.
