Three people have been arrested after allegedly evading police in a car without registration plates in Knox.

Police said officers saw a Volkswagen GTI with no rego plates on Burwood Highway Wantirna South about 1pm Thursday, November 3 and attempted to intercept the car.

The driver then allegedly took off towards Scoresby Rd which prompted the police air wing to follow it.

The driver allegedly drove through several suburbs before pulling into a service station on Loughnan Rd Ringwood, to get petrol.

On-ground officers caught up with them and arrested the three occupants on the scene.

An Ashburton woman, 44, Wandin North man, 19, and Ferntree Gully man, 25, are helping police with their inquiries.

The Volkswagen was impounded.
