A police chase in Melbourne’s southeast came to a fiery end, after an alleged thief’s car tyres caught on fire.
A man was spotted by police in an allegedly stolen Mazda sedan on the Monash Freeway about 10am Wednesday, November 2.
Tracked by the police air wing, the driver initially avoided arrest after allegedly driving through stop-sticks, which had been deployed by officers earlier in the chase.
The man allegedly continued driving through the streets of Narre Warren in the Mazda.
The driver was eventually forced to stop in Portree Place, due to the tyres allegedly catching fire due to the tyre shred caused by the stop sticks.
The driver then allegedly ditched the vehicle on foot, and a man was later chased by police and arrested nearby.
He was taken to hospital under police guard.
