A drug-affected Lilydale beautician stumbled out of her car — right in front of police — before screaming as she was arrested in a Croydon pub carpark.

Hollie Iedema, 23, pleaded guilty to a series of drug-related charges from three incidents at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on February 15, 2023.

The court heard Iedema parked next to a police car at the Dorset Gardens Hotel on January 28, 2022 about 6.30pm, and nearby officers thought she appeared “extremely substance affected” when she got out of her car.

They began questioning her, and during the process, Idema clung onto her car and tried to remove items from her handbag including a syringe with a clear substance in it.

Iedema was removed by officers, who later had to put her on the ground and handcuff her, despite her “screaming uncontrollably”.

She admitted to using 10g of 1.4-butanediol, and officers later found a gram of meth inside her handbag.

In other incidents, Iedema was caught appearing drug-affected and with meth and GHB in her handbag outside Carrum Downs McDonalds on March 3, 2022, and with a canister of GHB in her car in Hood St, Mont Albert, on November 22, 2021.

The court heard Iedema’s drug issues emerged after work slowed down due to Covid, and she had a “light bulb moment” after the incidents and confessed her issues to her family, who supported her in court.

They sent her to a rehabilitation clinic in Bali, where she stayed for three months to address her addiction.

Iedema’s defence lawyer said her client had regained employment as a traffic controller, regularly attended Narcotics Anonymous, and asked Magistrate John Hardy to consider an adjourned undertaking.

Mr Hardy told Iedema she was “very lucky” to have not been charged for drug driving in the Dorset Gardens Hotel incident, and also noted her parents’ support, particularly for funding her Bali rehab trip.

He spared Iedema a conviction and placed her on a 15-month good behaviour bond, and ordered she donate $500 to Orygen Youth Health.

Mr Hardy also made directions to ensure Iedema reported to him on her progress, and issued stern advice about the impact of drug taking.

“Coincidently I went to Lilydale High School, I grew up in Mount Evelyn … you’re lucky to live in that part of the world,” Mr Hardy told Iedema.

“You’re a very lucky woman, don’t chuck it down the toilet … (if you reoffend) so many doors of opportunity will slam shut to you.”
