Constant vandalism and rubbish dumping, including of second-hand undies, have forced Healesville RSL sub-branch, to remove its charity bins.

Sub-branch staff removed the bins in the carpark after locks had been broken and items strewn across the carpark.

The club posted on its Facebook page on Monday saying: “As a result of our charity bins being continuously broken into and used as a dumping ground, they will all be removed this week.”

Page followers were angry and upset about the break-ins with Julie Gilder saying it was a shame someone would do something like that when it’s helping so many others.

Tina Marie called the vandalism “robbing from the poor”.

Sub-branch gaming manager Melanie Green said the locks on the bins had been broken twice and the content emptied all over the ground.

“The bins get full quite quickly and we organise to get them picked up often,” Ms Green said.

“But people are just dumping rubbish.”

She said the charity bins were being used as a dumping ground with a lot of people just leaving bags of rubbish.

“People don’t want second-hand undies that are all grey,” Ms Green said.

“People dump broken furniture, and a lot of the stuff is just rubbish we have to throw out.”

Ms Green said it was a shame to remove the bins when so many people did the right thing for a good cause.
