Christmas could be the perfect time to adopt a pet — but not as a surprise.

If you want a furry friend to share your life with Animal Aid has many cute faces and personalities to choose from at its Coldstream rescue centre.

Events and Media Manager Elle Ammann said Christmas was the perfect time of year to adopt.

“This year we’re spreading the word that while you never want to surprise someone with a pet for Christmas,” she said.

“But it is the perfect time to adopt because you get time off and you have the ability to spend some quality time with them getting nice and settled and building the relationship.

“We have so many cats and dogs right now, and some of them are older guys so we really want to see them have forever homes this Christmas.”

Age: 4

Sex: Male

Breed: Domestic short hair

We have a superstar in our midst. Cash is special for many reasons but we need the purrfect home for this stunning man. This boy is FIV positive and many cats don’t get the chance to find a home but Cash is so very worth it. His FIV status and his colouring mean he will need to be a strictly indoor cat – this is a job Cash takes very seriously.

Age: 11

Sex: Female

Breed: Domestic medium hair

Misti arrived after her owner could no longer keep her and it has been a very sad transition for her after living with her owner for more than 10 years. She desperately needs a quiet home with maybe a retired couple. Misti is a very sweet cat who likes to snuggle up to you on the couch of a night while you watch some old classic movies (she’s a big fan of Marilyn Munroe).

Age: 10

Sex: Female

Breed: Domestic short hair

Penny was adopted from us a few years back and unfortunately due to her owner becoming ill she has come back into our care. Penny is super sweet and would love a home where she can relax and be loved, she’s very good at showing you all the love she has to give. Penny is a little on the chubby side so she will need a home where her diet can be maintained.

Vovo

Age: 1

Sex: Female

Breed: Domestic short hair

This sweet girl is Vovo and she’s finished raising her three kids and is now waiting patiently for her very own home. At just a year old she has had a bit of a rough start to life and deserves a soft place to rest her head. Vovo is going to be best suited to a quiet home with no other cats — she has just finished raising her babies and for now another cat friend would be a bit too much for her to cope with.
