More than 250km of dirt roads will be sealed and a headspace centre to support young people with mental health issues will be established in Lilydale, after Liberal MP Tony Smith retained the seat of Casey.
Mr Smith, who has held the seat since 2001, has secured 45.28 per cent of first preference votes.
“I am humbled to be returned as the federal member for Casey,” Mr Smith said.
“I would like to thank our local community for their support at this election and the confidence they have shown in me over many years.
“During the campaign I outlined a comprehensive plan to make our community safer and stronger.
“I look forward to working with our local community to deliver on the commitments I have made.”
He previously told Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader providing for major road upgrades to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety, and sealing 250km of dirt roads to help end the days of dust, mud and potholes, were among his key election promises.
“My plan includes providing $300 million to seal dirt roads in the Dandenongs and surrounding regions. $150 million of this will be provided directly to the Yarra Ranges Council to seal 250kms of dirt roads in our community,” Mr Smith said.

He said he would also continue to improve safety within the community for families and small businesses by extending the CCTV security camera network into six more towns.
Mr Smith said he would work hard to deliver his comprehensive plan to build a stronger and safer community and stronger local economy.
Meanwhile in the neighbouring electorates of Aston and La Trobe, Liberals Alan Tudge and Jason Wood retained their seats.
