Federal election 2019: Deakin candidates announced
Eight candidates will contest the seat of Deakin at the federal election following the confirmation of nominations. A singer from a minor party scored top spot on the ballot paper.

Eight candidates will contest the seat of Deakin at the May 18 federal election.
The Australian Electoral Commission declared nominations and conducted a draw for ballot paper positions on Wednesday.
Liberal Michael Sukkar has held the seat since 2013 and has a 6.4 per cent margin.

Mr Sukkar drew fourth place on the ballot paper, with Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party candidate Ellie Jean Sullivan getting top spot.
Labor’s Shireen Morris, expected to be Mr Sukkar’s biggest challenger for the seat, drew seventh.
So far in the election campaign, sporting groups have been the big winners.
Mr Sukkar and Ms Morris have both pledged $2 million for a new pavilion at Mitcham’s Heatherdale Reserve.
Mr Sukkar has pledged $1.5 million to expand Vermont South’s SportsLink centre, while Ms Morris has pledged $500,000 each for new pavilions at Ringwood’s Proclamation Park and Croydon’s Springfield Reserve.
