Domain East retail centre to bring big names to Bayswater North in 2020

A new shopping precinct coming to Bayswater North is being billed as a rare opportunity for showroom retailers, and the missing link in what is touted as a new “golden mile” for shoppers in Melbourne’s east.

A new shopping centre is coming to Bayswater North, further increasing the potential for a new ‘Golden Mile’ in Maroondah.

CVA Property Consultants is determined to bring household names to their Domain East centre at 193-225 Canterbury Rd.

The centre will feature up to seven showrooms, ranging from 700sqm to 5000sqm in size.

Maroondah Council approved a permit for the site in March 2017.

It will be built on vacant land between Bayswater’s Bunnings Warehouse and the Officeworks, Supercheap Auto and Petbarn stores.

CVA managing director Ian Angelico said the centre was an ideal solution for the road’s booming retail offerings.

“It really just ties up with some of the other occupiers and businesses already there and fills the gap,” he said.

“There’s very limited opportunities for showroom occupiers to get a property on Canterbury Rd with generous parking, that’s why we think it's a great opportunity.”

Mr Angelico said CVA was looking to lure retailers who specialised in homewares, electrical and trade supplies — but was open to other types of retailers as well.

He said they had discussions with two major retailers but were yet to secure any tenants.

“The preference is for major national retailers to keep it in line with the flavour of the other surrounding occupiers.

“It’s really one of the last opportunities, whether it’s retailers or industry, to get into a brand new estate.”

CVA also recently sold the final lot of a new 16-lot industry park on Market Drive next to Officeworks, which will weave behind Domain East and other businesses.

Maroondah Leader understands one of the tenants will be a major Australian company which will build new offices in the park.

Mr Angelico said construction of Domain East would begin in the second half of this year and be finished by mid-2020.
