Two people have been arrested following a string of thefts in Melbourne’s outer east, including at Maroondah sports venues.

A Croydon duo have been arrested following an alleged three-month crime spree across Melbourne’s east, which included stolen wallets, a car and a bike.

Maroondah acting detective Sergeant Ryan Davis said officers raided a home in Brywood Ct in Croydon on March 7 and arrested a man and a woman after linking them to a series of alleged property crime offences over summer.

They included the alleged theft of wallets from a leisure centre in Rielly St, Ringwood on December 28, from a car at a golf course on Canterbury Rd in Heathmont on the same day, and at a gym in Mitcham on January 17.

Acting Sgt Davis said credit cards inside each of the wallets were allegedly used to make various payments.

The duo also allegedly took a handbag from the same leisure centre in Ringwood on February 23, which led to the victim’s car, a Mitzubishi Mirage, being stolen.

A day earlier, they allegedly stole a wallet from a car parked on Maroondah Highway in Croydon North.

Other incidents included the alleged theft of a bike and other items from a home on Whitehorse Rd in Mont Albert on February 4, and an attempted burglary on Maroondah Highway in Croydon North on March 3.

Acting Sgt Davis said officers found a 41-year-old male inside the home during the March 7 raid, along with a 39-year-old female offsider hiding in a wardrobe, who had four outstanding warrants.

He said the allegedly stolen Mitzubishi was recovered in Mitcham, while officers also found various allegedly stolen items during the house raid and were in the process of returning them to owners.

The 41-year-old man was charged with 45 offences related to burglary, theft, handling stolen goods and obtaining property by deception.

He was remanded to face Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on April 6, while the woman was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on August 2.

Acting Sgt Davis said the incidents were a reminder for residents to remove valuable items from their cars, particularly while attending sports facilities in Maroondah.
