Rowville has come out as Knox’s hotspot for coronavirus cases after the State Government released its latest data on active infections across Melbourne suburbs.

As of Tuesday, there were 61 active cases in the region with 21 recovered, as the state number rose by 222 cases bringing total Victorian infections to 17,238.

This comes as the Department of Health and Human Services reveals it is investigating cases linked to Knox Private Hospital, Austin Hospital, and West End apartment construction site in West Melbourne.

The outer east suburb has 15 active cases recorded with 35 recovered, while Wantirna has 13 infections with 28 people recovered from the deadly virus.

Ferntree Gully followed closely behind with 11 active cases and 23 recovered while Bayswater has 10 (14), Boronia 7 (14), Scorseby 5 (9), The Basin 4 (4), and Knoxfield is at 2 (5).

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews extended the State of Emergency until 11.59pm on Sunday, September 13.

But the threat of facing a hefty fine hasn’t stopped some Knox residents from flouting the 5km limits with police catching up with those breaching Stage 4 restrictions – up to $1,652 for individuals and $9,913 for businesses.

A pair were stopped while driving through Knox and allegedly told police they were returning from Reservoir after selling a mobile phone.

But when their car was searched, police allegedly discovered drugs – methyl amphetamine, ecstasy, cannabis, and GHB.

A man and woman were stopped by police on Ferntree Gully Rd after officers noticed their car did not have registration plates.

The pair allegedly told police they were on their way to Boronia – more than 20km from their home – to pick up a pair of shoes they bought from an online marketplace.

This comes a day after police fined two men on Saturday who allegedly travelled from Bayswater to Bonnie Doon to collect clothes.

Healthscope, who run Knox Hospital, has been contacted for comment.
