A family who travelled from Keysborough to walk at Lysterfield Lake gave police the impression they didn’t think coronavirus was that serious.

The couple were with their two children at the Knox park when police asked them why they were not wearing masks.

Victoria Police Senior Communications advisor Alanna Jarry said when questioned by officers the couple said they had travelled from the south east – almost 15km from home – to go for a walk.

She said when the couple were speaking to police, it was clear they were deliberately breaching the directions because they didn’t think the virus was that serious.

The pair were fined for breaching the Stay at Home directions.

Meanwhile a man was stopped by police after driving through Knoxfield after curfew and allegedly told police he had driven from Mt Waverley to take his uncle to buy cigarettes and refill a gas bottle.

This comes after a pair were stopped while driving through Knox and allegedly told police they were returning from Reservoir after selling a mobile phone last weekend.

But when their car was searched, police allegedly discovered drugs – methyl amphetamine, ecstasy, cannabis, and GHB.

A man and woman were stopped by police on Ferntree Gully Rd after officers noticed their car did not have registration plates.

The pair allegedly told police they were on their way to Boronia – more than 20km from their home – to pick up a pair of shoes they bought from an online marketplace.

The fine for breaching Stage 4 restrictions is up to $1,652 for individuals and $9,913 for businesses.

This comes as the Department of Health and Human Services reveals it is investigating cases linked to Knox Private Hospital, Austin Hospital, and West End apartment construction site in West Melbourne.

A Knox Private Hospital spokesman said: “We are treating COVID patients at Knox Private and like other health facilities have a small number of staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently isolating.”

He said the four staff members are in good health, and Knox Private was offering them every support.

Rowville continues as Knox’s hotspot for coronavirus cases after the State Government released its latest data on active infections across Melbourne suburbs.

The outer east suburb has 15 active cases recorded with 35 recovered, while Wantirna has 13 infections with 28 people recovered from the deadly virus.

Ferntree Gully followed closely behind with 11 active cases and 23 recovered while Bayswater has 10 (14), Boronia 7 (14), Scorseby 5 (9), The Basin 4 (4), and Knoxfield is at 2 (5).
