A man allegedly stabbed outside a Bayswater North home has been identified as 40-year-old Chris Taylor.

Mr Taylor, 40, died following an alleged stabbing at a home in Mason Ct on September 12 at about 7.10am.

The alleged attacker, 42-year-old Croydon man Darryl Kennedy, was located by police and tackled to the ground by officers opposite Bayswater North’s McDonalds restaurant on Canterbury Rd and arrested a short time later.

The restaurant became a secondary crime scene for about five hours after the incident and police blocked traffic in both directions along Bayswater Rd between Canterbury Rd and Mason Ct until the early afternoon.

It is believed Mr Taylor was alone at the time of the incident and he and Mr Kennedy knew each other.

Mr Taylor was previously been based in Queensland and was working as an arborist and renting the house from a friend.

Friend Kane Graham said he found about Mr Taylor’s death through a friend and through Facebook posts.

He said he knew Mr Taylor for more than 10 years and “used to hang out every day just about before that for years” when he was based in Crestmead, south of Brisbane.

Mr Graham said Mr Taylor left Brisbane four years ago to work in Western Australia and then to Melbourne.

Mr Taylor’s old baseball club, the Beenleigh Hawks, also based south of Brisbane, posted a tribute on its Facebook page on September 13.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the news yesterday morning of a loyal hawkie and a dear friend of ours. R.I.P. Chris “CT” Taylor”, the club wrote.

“To the Taylor family. Thinking of you all and wishing you moments of peace and comfort at this time. Fly high CT!”

The Mason Ct house’s front and back yards were filled with rubbish, empty Cougar cans, used bikes, old cars, an abandoned truck and storage lockers when Leader visited on September 13.

Residents in the street, who declined to be named, had mixed perspectives on the house.

One resident said it was “a quiet street with quiet people”, and another said the occupants had “never done anything to annoy the whole street”.

“They have always been polite to everyone who walked up and down, never interfered with anybody,” the resident said.

The brother of the homeowner visited on Monday morning, telling Leader his brother was “devastated” over his friend’s death.

Mr Kennedy faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 12 and was charged with one count of alleged murder.

He was remanded to face the court again on December 6.
