Canterbury Rd resident Cassie, who didn’t give her surname, said she was walking her dogs when she saw a man get tackled to the ground by six police officers early on Sunday morning.

“All of sudden, on both sides of the road there were blue and red flashing lights,” she said.

“As I’m getting closer there’s coppers on the footpath and a whole bunch of them on top of a bloke... he seemed very relaxed for what had just happened.”

Cassie said the incident was not rare for the area, saying she had seen similar incidents unfold at the Canterbury and Bayswater Rd corner block during her 15 years living at her home.

“You see fights and brawls outside Maccas and the (7-Eleven) servo, and brawls outside Anaconda when a car meet happens,” she said.

“I’ve had a bloke come up and knock on my door with a stab wound and blood coming out of his face.

“It is actually common for this area, unfortunately, and more needs to be done (to tackle crime), definitely.”

The accused was remanded to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Mason Court runs off Bayswater Rd, near the intersection of Canterbury Rd.

The Bayswater North McDonalds carpark was also cordoned off to the public on Sunday morning, believed to be linked to the fatal stabbing.

Several police officers were seen guarding the scene.

Police tape stretches around the restaurant and an entrance and exit point on Canterbury Rd has been blocked off.

A police spokesman confirmed the alleged stabbing did not occur at the store, but was part of the broader crime scene.

Police investigators were spotted walking into the nearby Anaconda store just after 11am.
