A driver has been taken to hospital after his car slammed into a parked vehicle in Chirnside Park, with the impact ripping out his car’s engine.
The crash on Switchback Rd about 7.30am Monday saw the road closed for several hours, with detours in place for drivers, as emergency services rushed to the scene.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said a man, believed to be in his 20s, suffered lacerations and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
Yarra Ranges highway patrol Acting Sergeant Michael Pryor said the driver was travelling westbound on Switchback Rd when he came over the rise and collided into the back of a parked vehicle.
He said police were investigating the circumstances of the crash.
“(Speed) could be a factor; we’re still looking into it, it was a pretty big hit,” Acting Sgt Pryor said.
Both cars were written off.
The Lilydale State Emergency Service, along with the Chirnside Park and Lilydale CFA brigades, Ambulance Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters were called to the scene, with reports of a person trapped.
“The large saloon car came to rest some distance from the parked car,” the SES unit said in a Facebook post.
The driver was removed without the need to cut the car.
