ALDI’S plans to open a store in Boronia are progressing.

The supermarket giant is planning to build a supermarket and retail store at 1-13 Erica Ave, in place of other shops.

The Aussie Veterans Op-Shop was among those forced out by the new store, but has since relocated to Boronia Mall.

An Aldi spokesman said the State Government had approved zoning changes to allow the plans to go ahead.

The spokesman said Knox Council had also issued a planning permit, and it was having a final design review before going back to the council for endorsement.

The spokesman said subject to final approval, construction was due to start later this year and be finished next year.

Aldi already has stores in Scoresby, Rowville, Ferntree Gully and Bayswater.

The Bayswater store is being upgraded and will reopen with a new look on July 14.

Council city development director Angelo Kourambas confirmed a planning permit was issued after planning scheme amendment C145 was gazetted and approved by Planning Minister Richard Wynne.

Mr Kourambas confirmed the council still had to endorse Aldi’s plans.
