A group of dads are dancing at Kilsyth South’s Vibe Studios mid-year concert

The energy — and the laughs — are set to go to another level when some unlikely performers take to the stage at a Kilsyth South dance school’s concert on Sunday.

A bunch of dedicated dancing dads are preparing to steal the show at their children’s mid-year concert — all for a good cause.

Seventeen dads of students at Kilsyth South’s Vibe dance studios will be busting moves at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre on June 16.

They’ve been practising their act for the past month with rehearsals up to twice a week and are raising money for The Royal Children’s Hospital.

The group have eclipsed their initial target of $5000 and are now aiming for $10,000.

One of the group’s founders, Craig Evans, said the ‘Dads Dance’ would be “something that our kids and Vibe studios will talk about for many years to come”.
“We’re 17 uncoordinated dads, some of which are tipping over 100kg on the scales and all out of our comfort zone,” he said.

“None can dance but what we lose in ability we make up for in enthusiasm.”

Studio owner Paul Richmond said the group had ordered special outfits for the performance and would mix together various moves including the ‘floss’, twist and ‘hype’.

“There’s one guy who’s good, everyone else is pretty ordinary,” Mr Richmond said.

“We’re performing a mix of different styles and the whole idea is to get a few cheap laughs.
“It’s for a great cause and a great charity helping sick kids, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
