THE long-awaited bubbler taps at the 1000 Steps have been switched on in time for summer.
The two bays of taps are at the bottom of the steps near the education centre and the landing at the top near the Lyrebird Trail intersection.
They were switched on last Wednesday after being funded by a $50,000 Federal Government grant.
It followed regular complaints that visitors were unable to rehydrate and that people were littering plastic drink bottles along the popular track.
Aston federal Liberal MP Alan Tudge said he was happy to see the taps ready to use.
“The 1000 Steps is much loved by Knox locals and the new drinking fountains will make it even better,” he said.
“It may even inspire a few more to put their runners on and start climbing.”
