There’s an exciting chance to rub shoulders — or at least catch a glimpse of — a couple of A-list movie stars in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron and John Cena will be filming scenes for their upcoming US feature film in an unexpected spot next month — a bowling alley in Bundoora.
Oz Tenpin Greensborough Lanes will be the set for Ricky Stanicky on March 3, with as many as 150 cast and crew on site for filming.
The cast and crew will also take over Bar Eight for catering purposes.
The filming will take over much of the shopping precinct in Grimshaw St, running from 11am to 1am the next morning, transforming Bundoora into the US city of Providence.
According to a notice from the film’s location manager, most of the filming will take place inside the bowling alley which will be closed to the public for the day.
But there will be one night-time scene filmed in the outdoor car park, giving residents a chance to catch a glimpse of the celebrities.
The Greatest Showman and High School Musical favourite Efron and WWE star Cena arrived in Australia just last week and are set to work on the movie for the next eight weeks in locations across Melbourne.
The synopsis of the R-rated comedy reads: “As teenagers, four friends create a fictitious character, ‘Ricky Stanicky’, to get them out of sticky situations. It’s a lie that the boys find irresistible and it continues to come in handy into their adult lives. But when their partners become suspicious they’re forced to hire a washed-up, self-destructive actor to bring ‘Ricky’ to life with dire, yet hilarious consequences”.
Ricky Stanicky is a movie directed by Peter Farrelly, who was behind There’s Something About Mary and Green Book.
