An inaugural event to recognise and celebrate First Nations people will have some real star power thanks to a The X-Factor Australia winner.
Singer Isaiah Firebrace, who represented Australia at Eurovision in 2017, will headline the live music program at Ngulu Nganjin — Everyone’s Voice.
Designed by the Darebin Aboriginal Advisory Committee and Darebin Council, the event will be hosted by actor and elder Uncle Jack Charles.
Firebrace has held a series of workshops with students from eight primary schools in the lead up to the event.
Students will join him on stage to perform his new single Spirit.
Firebrace said he was “delighted” to be involved in the “rewarding” experience.
“Music is the thing that can bring cultures and religions together and this has been such a great thing to be involved with and I can’t wait for the actual event,” he said.
Aboriginal Advisory Committee member Charles Pakana said the input received from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities was fundamental to the event.
“This event is a celebration of the culture and history of First Nations peoples and it’s also an opportunity for all people who call Darebin home to join together and celebrate,” he said.
