FROM Jimmy Little to Jimblah, indigenous music has long been a feature on the Australian charts.
Preston-based radio station 3KND Kool N Deadly (1503AM) will create a chart of their own this Australia Day, playing their top 100 songs recorded by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
3KND station manager Jim Remedio said creating the list — which will be played in no particular order — was an Australian first.
“It’s never been attempted before,” Mr Remedio said.
“So we’re breaking ground in many ways to inspire our mob to feel good on the day.”

The nine-hour program will begin at 11am and will be broadcast on AM and digital radio and be live streamed online at 3knd.org.au.
Mr Remedio said the countdown would celebrate the enduring culture of music among Australia’s indigenous people.
Featured artists will include Troy Cassar-Daley, Yothu Yindi, Jimmy Little, Christine Anu, Coloured Stone, Archie Roach, B2M, Tjintu Desert Band and more.
3KND plans to also invite listeners to vote for their personal top five songs for a chance to win pprizes.
