Generations of farming will be celebrated when the Whittlesea Show turns 160 this weekend.
The popular agricultural show returns to the Whittlesea Showgrounds on Saturday, celebrating the theme Generation to Generation.
It includes a host of free or low-cost events for the whole family, including Eroni’s Circus, an animal nursery, CFA and SES demonstrations, wood chopping competitions, arts and craft displays, vintage cars and machinery and equestrian competitions.
There will also be rides, showbags and food.
Judy Clements’ family has been involved in the show for five generations and said the theme was very appropriate.
The Whittlesea Agricultural Society life member said it was a massive achievement for agriculture to be celebrating a 160th show in this day and age.
“It’s something we are very proud of,” she said.
Ms Clements said while the show would celebrate those who had been involved in the society, it also had a role in passing down its traditions to others.
“It’s not only for people who have been a part of it for years, there is an important role we play in passing on skills, craft and knowledge to the broader public,” she said.
Kinglake farmer Daryl Johnson will be exhibiting in the livestock and garden sections, and said his family was always heavily involved with the event.
“It’s quite an achievement to be involved in the 160th show, especially because my mother’s grandfather was president in the 1960s and my uncle was president not long ago,” he said.
Mr Johnson, 39, said he had been to every show in his lifetime and looked forward to be able to showcase his skills at this year’s event.
