A Watsonia couple has been left devastated after their custom-made $10,000 engagement ring was lost in the post.
Darcy Napthine sent his wife’s ring via registered post to a Sydney jeweller for a “routine clean” on October 18 – but it never reached its destination.
Australia Post is investigating the incident.
“I had the ring custom-made from this jeweller in 2016 and in order to maintain its lifetime warranty we have to send it to the same place for any sort of clean or alteration,” Mr Napthine said.
“We have done this before, but when I heard the jeweller hadn’t received the ring this time, I immediately started panicking.
“The ring has so much sentimental value, it’s a delicate and beautiful ring and I just don’t understand how this has happened.”
Erin Napthine wore the one-carat diamond ring when she married Darcy in March.
The precious jewel also came with 10 tapered shoulder stones.
Mr Napthine said his wife “absolutely treasured” the ring, but its mysterious disappearance had left her shattered.
“I couldn’t tell her at first – it was just such sad news, but then eventually I told her and she was absolutely devastated,” he said.

“It’s been a very stressful time and we just hope that it emerges.”
Australia Post spokesperson John Pyrros said “something had gone wrong” and the company was trying to track down the ring.
“We apologise to our customer for not receiving updates to his delivery,” he said.
“It’s clear that something has gone wrong here and we’re investigating.
“We will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.”
