Aidan Clonan was walking his bike uphill along Bishop Ave about 6pm on October 23 when a passing dog attacked him.
He underwent surgery at the Austin Hospital after suffering two puncture wounds in his right leg.
Aidan’s father Troy Clonan told the Leader his son had responded well to surgery.
“His leg is in a cast at the moment and he’s on crutches, but hopefully will no longer be after Friday when he has a check-up,” he said.
“Aidan has been incredibly brave — it was a very traumatic moment for him, but he’s doing well and loving the extra attention he has been getting at home and at school.”
Diamond Creek Senior Constable David Garlick said a hunt was still under way to find the dog and its owner.
Mr Clonan appealed for the responsible person to come forward.
“It’s a bit disappointing she hasn’t come forward — just do the right thing,” he said.
“It could have been worse with Aidan and it could be worse next time if that dog attacks another child.”
