A man has been charged over a horrific truck crash in Epping last year which left beloved father of two Peter Howard dead.
Mr Howard, from Mill Park, was flung from the cabin of his garbage truck after another truck ploughed into his vehicle, killing the 51-year-old at the scene near the corner of Cooper and Miller streets.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit on Saturday charged the driver of the other truck with culpable driving.
It is alleged a stabiliser arm attached to an articulated trailer had not been retracted when it hit Mr Howard’s garbage truck just after 7.10am on December 19 last year.
A 48-year-old Truganina man has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 7.
Mr Howard, a mad Carlton Blues fan, loved sport and played cricket and umpired local footy in his spare time.
Friends described him as a “great worker” with a great work ethic.
“He provided for his family, he was the sole provider, he always spoke about his kids” friend Mars said.
“He was pretty good on the road, he wasn’t a careless driver.
“We used to laugh, joke and have a great time. I was sick in the gut when I got the call about it.”
